Behind the Lens
April 15, 2009I Am……
• I am a photographer. I LOVE my job.
• I am passionate about my work and my images.
• I am most comfortable BEHIND the camera, not in front of it.
• I am a serious workaholic….I have to constantly remind myself that every now and then I do need a break.
• My husband is my best friend. . .even when we fight : )
• I am cheap about some things - but I love my designer jeans
• I am a nerd about owners manuals- I read them cover to cover for every gadget I buy.
• I am CRAZY about my dog, Sam.
• I am definitely a “Type-A” personality ( I tend to organize my “to do” lists- haha!)
• I am always on time…and if I am not, then something happened! I can’t stand being late!
• I love low humidity days when my hair stays STRAIGHT, of course that rarely happens in the South!
• Cold nights, fuzzy socks and hot cappuccino make me smile.
• I wish I had the dedication to exercise regularly, but I don’t!
• I would eat Mexican food for every meal, everyday if I could.
• I still get so excited when I get that “perfect” shot, and that’s how I know this is what I was meant to do.
My Bio….
I was raised in Sumter, SC and have lived here all my life (with the exception of moving off for College!) I am very thankful to have all of my friends and family here as well. I am in my VERY early thirties….. and I’ll just leave it at that (Haha!) I am married to Gordon, my wonderful husband of over 7 years and we have the greatest Boston Terrier ever - Sam! Yes, I am one of those ” crazy about my dog” people!
Photography is my passion, it’s what excites me, its what I think about day and night- and it is what I LOVE to do! To me, this is not work- it is fun!! Which is why I have to make myself STOP working sometimes and go live life! I am so thankful that my husband and family understand how important this is to me and support me.
The beginning. . .
I have always been interested in photography, and loved taking pictures with my point and shoot cameras, but I really became interested in photography when I got married. I fell in love with my photographer’s work and began to look at photography in a whole new way. I purchased my first film SLR in 2000 and then my first digital SLR about a year later.
To begin with, I was only intereted in landscape, nature and still life work. Then in 2003 I was asked to photograph a co-workers wedding, to which I quickly replied “No Way!”. After thinking about it, and having all my other co-workers tell me that I should - I agreed. I was TERRIFIED, but I did it and I LOVED it! From that moment on, I was absolutely hooked! There is nothing quite like a wedding day - the emotions, the love, and the beginning of a new life for two people. I will never forget that wedding, or the people that believed in me and pushed me to take the chance to do it - I am forever thankful.
After that, my nose was in every photography book I could get my hands on, and I attended every photography class I could find. I wanted to know everything that I could.
I began taking pictures of friends and family, and then they told others, and my business began to grow! It grew so much, in fact, that over the next few years I found myself working my full time day job and then coming home and shooting and working all night as well - not the best situation. I became stressed and overworked, but I was not giving up! In July of 2009, I (nervously) decided to quit my full time job and just focus on my photography, which so far, has been the best decision I have ever made!

Diane: I am a huge fan of yours.
