Helpful Information:

* Maternity Sessions are shot around the 7-8 month.  The focus of these sessions is of course, the baby bump, so keep the clothing simple (solid black or white sets of sports bras, tank tops and lounge pants.)  Bring some cute items from your baby’s nursery to use for props ( stuffed animals, shoes, rattles, baby blocks).  Check out some examples here: http://www.meganmanusphotography.com/index2.php?v=v2#/featured/

* Newborn Sessionsare shot within the FIRST or SECOND week- very important! You want to bring your baby in as soon as you can after birth to capture the “tiny-ness” and “new-ness” (yes those are words) of the baby!  When they get to be a couple weeks old, they start squirming and looking all around, and since they can’t focus their eyes at that age, open eyed newborn pictures…are sometimes funny looking- haha!!  90% of newborn images are of the naked baby…and that’s the look most parents are after as well.   I have lots of baskets and bowls and other things that I like to place the baby in for these images, or you are welcome to bring your own props. Check out some examples here: http://www.meganmanusphotography.com/index2.php?v=v2#/featured/

* Baby Plans: I offer two baby plans that “grow” with your child. The first  plan offers 5 sessions to capture every bit of your child’s first year of life, and concludes on the child’s first Birthday.  The second plan offers 3 sessions, to capture the major “milestones” of the child’s first year.  If you would like further information about these plans, please contact me via email : megan@meganmanusphotography.com

I am excited to show off my newest technological advances……Flash Drives!!

From now on, when a wedding client purchases their digital wedding files from me, they will be on this handy little device! Cute huh?   I think flash drives provide more safety for your digital memories, because they don’t scratch like discs do, and they are more compact and easier to store as well!   And I just love the blue and brown colors and my logo looks kinda cute on them too- haha!!!   Anyway- just wanted to share the latest- hope you like!!

Oh- and if anyone out there thinks that “tips and tricks” posts are  useful, informative, interesting, entertaining, or if  they  just give you something  to read while you are at work…..please leave some comments and let me know.  Otherwise….I just feel like I am wasting my time….haha!!!  So let me hear from YOU!

Awww, everyone loves babies - their cute little eyes, noses, ears, hands, and feet just make us all melt. But they grow up so fast! One minute they’re the most precious little beings on earth and the next minute they’re graduating from high school. So parents practically run themselves nuts trying to capture every moment of their little lives.

For some parents, it’s almost like an addiction - they just can’t stop taking those snap shots with their digital cameras as their babies grow up. While these pictures are cute and funny, there’s usually something “not quite right” about them - such as clothes scattered across the floor in the background. While those candid photos are good for the collection too, most parents find themselves having professional photos taken of their babies quite often.

However, just because the photographs are being taken by a professional does not mean the process is automatically stress-free for the parents. A professional baby photo shoot can actually end up being quite stressful without the proper planning and preparation on the parents’ part.

Here are 5 tips from an Atlanta Photographer that will help your baby’s photo session go on without a glitch:

1. Work around the baby’s schedule. Babies tend to photograph best after taking a nap and being well-rested. Make sure your baby receives adequate sleep the night before a photo shoot as well as taken a nap prior to the photo shoot if possible. It’s hard to capture “happy” moments when babies are cranky and tired. There’s nothing wrong with capturing the cranky moments, but there has to be at least a few happy poses in the set.

2. Set aside adequate time and be patient. Plan ahead and don’t rush the day of your baby’s photo session. In addition, be patient during the photo session under all circumstances. If you are flustered and frustrated, your baby will probably be in that same mood as they are very sensitive and connected to their parents’ emotional states.

3. Prepare the baby’s wardrobe. Every parent wants to see their baby dressed in their cutest little outfits - but tone it down for the professional photo shoots. Solid colors work the best and avoid loud logos, words, cartoon characters, and other busy details that can be distracting in a photograph. Simple is good! Have a few outfits picked out ahead of time for variety. Also, don’t forget to get a few bare poses as well - those are just priceless.

4. Decide on props. Baby photos usually consist of the baby leaning on something or playing with something. Come prepared with ideas about what you would like to see in the photographs with your baby. If you have some items at home that you want in the pictures, bring them along.

5. Decide on a location for the photo shoot. Many photographers today are doing more “outside of the studio” photography sessions. There are some beautiful sights in the world so be open-minded and decide where you want to have photos taken of your baby - at home, at the park, or at the lake. You name it - and it’s done. Some of the most adorable baby photo shoots were taken in places other than the studio so put your thinking cap on and get creative!

In conclusion, a baby photo shoot simply requires adequate planning and preparation by the parents in order to produce flawless professional baby photographs that you can reflect on for a life-time.

Finally! I can breathe a little…….After 14 straight Saturday’s of weddings, I finally have a two Saturday’s off in a row!!! Wooohooo! And yes I will vacationing AWAY both weekends!  I am just not going to know what to do with myself- haha!!   It has been a lot of hard work every weekend, hauling tons of camera equipment everywhere I go, sweating like crazy in the heat, trying to arrange huge groups of people for photos, bad hair days every Saturday, aching feet and back…….but what can I say- I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it…well maybe not so much the summer HEAT and HUMIDITY that I have to deal with, but the weddings and the people have been fabulous!!  Now, I can get a little (much needed) rest and gear up for my late-Summer and Fall weddings!

I must say….I am shocked…stunned…happy…proud….and well, SHOCKED!!  I want to sincerely thank everyone that voted for me in the 2010 Readers Choice  “Best of  The Best “Awards… I won the 2010 Readers Choice award for “Best Photographer/Studio”.   I still can’t quite believe it…even when I see it printed there on paper, and when the Item called me a few weeks ago to tell me the good news….I just sat there in disbelief.   All I could say to the person from the Item was “are you serious?” - haha!   When I hung up the phone, I actually danced around the house…..yes that’s right, DANCED!!  Sam was looking at me like I was crazy!     Of course, I had to tell my husband…and my mom…and a few friends… but now I can officially Thank everyone- so THANK YOU!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!  to all of my wonderful, amazing, awesome clients and everyone else that voted.   I am truly touched by this, thank you.

If any of you watch America’s Next Top Model…well you will know exactly what this post is about….it seems that “Smize” is about all Tyra can say these days- haha!  And even though the video I attached is hilarious….it is useful. When I am shooting your bridals, engagements or even your wedding, I will always tell you to NOT smile….or to do your “natural face” in some shots- which immediately makes people laugh, because it is hard to not smile when someone is telling you NOT to smile- haha!   However, just because you are not smiling, doesn’t mean you need to look “ticked off “either….which is where the “Smize” comes in,  meaning  to “smile with your eyes”.    So watch the video- yes it will make you laugh- and practice your SMIZE! haha!!

Thank you to all of the contestants, their parents, and everyone that voted!!  There was an incredible 1498 votes total…..and there can only be one vote per IP address, so that means that those votes came from 1498 separate computers…..crazy!!!   This was my first contest, but hopefully not the last!

Bride’s beware….

May 6, 2010

What goes around comes around…..and I am loving it!  Southern Bride in Greenville, SC was, without a doubt, the WORST experience of my sister’s entire Wedding.  It started when she purchased her dress from them, with the understanding that they could alter it with the addition of cap sleeves- they slapped two skinny straps on there- horrible!  Then they refused to re-do them without more $.  Then she purchased an $85 veil, full price, and when she got it home she discovered it was ripped- they would NOT return it or give her the $ back.  They did order her another one, and you know I don’t even think it ever came in, now that I think about it- I think she ended up borrowing my cousin’s veil instead.  Then they told her what slip she needed, and ordered it for her, without letting her try it on with the dress first. When it came it it was way too puffy to fit under her dress and it ruined the whole look of the dress- again, they refused to take it back or reorder her another slip.  It was just one thing after another- it was horrible!

Well, well- Apparently there have been so many complaints that a news station in Greenville did a report on them and their horrible service! Yes! There IS justice! haha!   check out this link.  (CLICK HERE) .  Oh my gosh all the stories on this video sound just like what happened to my sister!

So- if any of you brides are planning on traveling to the upstate to go dress shopping- SKIP SOUTHERN BRIDE! You will be glad you did.
